VERSE 1
Whatever happened to that nest egg
We were savin’ for a rainy day?
It seems to me to be too late
The rain has come and gone
I once was blonde but now I’m gray
It seems these days that crime does pay
Wish I had somethin’ better to say
But I believe that we’ve been conned
PRE-CHORUS
They say the money’s all gone
We need another fine or fee
We need another tax or bond
I say we need another tea party
CHORUS
We’ve gotta nip it in the bud; our issues can be fixed
No “ifs”, “ands” or “buts”, but we gotta hit the bricks
It’s gonna take some guts not just a slap on the wrist
We’ve gotta start praying instead of playing politics
VERSE 2
Better check your purse and your wallet
If you’ve still got a house or a car
I think you ought to lock it
Uncle Sam wants to pick your pocket
It ain’t good for the neighborhood
If you wanna know the truth
Don’t wanna be misunderstood
But there’s a con man on the loose
VERSE 3
He’s lookin’ for anything he can do
To pay the bills that are comin’ due
He’s in the red, his knuckles are white
And his eyes are black and blue
But he’s never quite out of money
If he needs more, he just prints it
He thinks it’s kinda sorta funny
But if it’s dirty, he’ll try to rinse it
BRIDGE
But he doesn’t really care
If you’re for it or against it
As long as he gets his share
But beware Trojans bearing gifts

VOTE OF CONFIDENCE
by Stan C. Countz, lyricist
I can’t believe how easily
We lie and deceive ourselves
No one takes responsibility
They all point to someone else
The ads on TV are the worse
It makes me feel so sick
Playin’ with words it’s absurd
Shouldn’t be playing politics
There really ought to be a law
Against such obvious deception
It really sticks in my craw
It’s the rule, not the exception
I’ve half a mind to go ahead and vote
The opposite of what each ad expects
Vote “no” where a “yes” should go
Reject what they propose I accept
It’s all a crock; it’s got to stop
The pot should stop calling the kettle black
We need to seek the truth and not be moved
By all the babble and the talk
It’s a bloody battle and it’s not
Just between John and Barach
We don’t need a lot of prattle
We’re not livestock or cattle
Our sons and our daughters
Are being led to the slaughter
There’s so much muckraking
I need a whole lot of water
It’s such a drama; it’s so inane
This nation has gone insane
It’s not just Obama and McCain
We're goin’ down the drain
We need to get back to the good ol’ days
When we loved Babe Ruth and Willy Mays
We all believed that crime never pays
Passed the hat or was that a passin' faze?
Before Vietnam and Watergate
Charlie Manson and Sharon Tate
Before we had to ask our date
If they were gay or straight
We were a nation of farmers and hicks
Played with pickup trucks and pick up sticks
Got our kicks on Route Sixty Six
Playin’ chicken not politics
Have we gone too far for it to be fixed?
If we’ll hit our knees and hit the bricks
If we’ll take our hits and take our licks
Maybe we can fix what’s broken
It won’t be as quick as we were hopin’
But we’ll nip it in the bud if we stay open
Why try to fix it if it ain’t broken?
So let’s stop our bitchin’ and mopin’
We need to get on with fixin’ our life
Marriage is between a husband and wife
Let’s put behind us the stress and strife
Because the truth cuts just like a knife
I can’t believe how easily
We lie and deceive ourselves
No one takes responsibility
They all point to someone else
The ads on TV are the worse
It makes me feel so sick
Playin’ with words it’s absurd

FOOLISH CHILD
LYRICS AND MUSIC BY STAN C. COUNTZ
V1
G C D
My crazy life was spinnin’ out of control
G A7 D7
He touched my everlivin’ heart and soul
G C D
Now my feet are planted firmly on the rock
G C D G
And my name is clearly written on the roll
CHORUS
D C Am
We are all like foolish children who, desiring to be wise
D C G
Trade truth for superstition and hope for compromise
D C Am
Losing all our inhibitions, our stock in trade is lies….
D C Em
Misusing our traditions, we’ve cut our family ties
D Em C G
Cut ‘em down to size, Oh Foolish Child
V2
G C D
His love for me has always been deep and wide
G A7 D7
He will always stay right by my side

No one can ever take me for a ride
G C D G
If I will let His Spirit be my guide
CHORUS

We are all like foolish children who, desiring to be wise

OUTRO

We judge a book by its cover when we choose our friends and lovers

D Em C G
Walk with me a while Oh Foolish Child

TO LIVE IS CHRIST
by Stan C. Countz
You win some and you lose some
Got an inside bet on a long shot
Gonna let it ride ‘cuz I’m on a run
And I gotta play the cards I’ve got
Gotta strike while the iron is hot
Tryin’ to dot my “I”s and cross my “t”s
To pay my debt to society
I can’t quite yet do just what I please
Got no regrets; I’m on my best behavior
I’m on my knees and I need a savior
After all, what’s the matter
with heeding the call?
‘Cuz there’s nothing sadder
Than riding an escalator or climbing a ladder
That’s leaning against the wrong wall
And, sooner or later, even the high and mighty
Are bound to fall
Gotta know when to hit and when to stay
When to quit and when to play
When to split and walk away
So you can play another day
I can hoard my wealth or give it away
I can lose my health or use my brain
Either way, it never helps to complain
‘Cuz this world will stay the same
Unless we do somethin’ to change it
Gotta try to rearrange it
And make it a better place
I’m still amazed by His amazing grace
Was it worth the cost? Was it worth the pain?
What have we lost and what have we gained?
He endured the cross and took away our sin and shame
He paid the ultimate cost and on Him was our burden laid
He became sin for us; so join in the chorus
To live is Christ and to die is gain
Like dusty rose petals without a drop of rain
When the dust finally settles, what will still remain?
Like Hansel and Gretel, we must’ve lost our way
So test our mettle and help us find our way… home
And roll away the stone that holds my heart
I’m made of flesh and bone but I’m falling apart
I’ll know as I am known so take and hone me
Shape and mold me and make me your own
I’m prone to roam and wander
Far away from hearth and home
I stop and start to ponder
Why I feel so lost and all alone
Like a ship that’s tossed and torn
I’m lost in a raging storm
I’ve been blessed and I’ve been burned
So I guess by now I’ve learned
To blow my own horn
Maybe He wants to see what makes me tick
What makes me glad and what makes me sick
Who I really am and what I’m made of
What makes me mad and what I’m afraid of
When I’m alone in the dark
He’s looking for the spark that ignites me
So He can light me like a candle
For all the world to see
He invites me to embark on a journey of discovery
Of life-long learning and recovery
Of discerning what I was put here to do and be
So I’m gonna open up my heart and mind
And I will surely find the answer
‘Cuz this world has a cancer
That is here to stay
But the cure is only a prayer away
To live is Christ and to die is gain
You win some and you lose some
Got an inside bet on a long shot
Gonna let it ride ‘cuz I’m on a run
And I gotta play the cards I’ve got
Gotta strike while the iron is hot

LOST IN MY OWN LIFE
Lyrics by Stan C. Countz
Me, myself and I
That’s all I can see
I’m lost in my own life
I’m as lonely as can be
It’s hard for me to see
Myself the way you see me
The truth cuts like a knife
And my life is so empty
What can I do to find my way home?
How can a song melt a heart of stone?
Can I ever really atone for all the things
All the silly things I’ve done wrong?
I’m lost in my own life
I’m blind to my own needs
Tossed in a sea of strife
Plantin’ the seeds
The seeds of my own destruction
I figure I need somethin’ bigger than me
To help me see a world, a world that’s in need
I wanna live my life in peace not with greed
and plant seeds that lead to life
I’m lost in my own life
I’m blind to my own needs
Tossed in a sea of strife
Plantin’ the seeds…
The seeds of my own destruction
Me, myself and I
That’s all I can see
I’m lost in my own life
I’m as lonely as can be
It’s hard for me to see
Myself the way you see me
The truth cuts like a knife
And my life is so empty
What can I do to find my way home?
How can a song melt a heart of stone?
Can I ever really atone for all the things
All the silly things I’ve done wrong?
I’m lost in my own life
I’m blind to my own needs
Tossed in a sea of strife
Plantin’ the seeds
The seeds of my own destruction
I figure I need somethin’ bigger than me
To help me see a world, a world that’s in need
I wanna live my life in peace not with greed
and plant seeds that lead to life
I’m lost in my own life
I’m blind to my own needs
Tossed in a sea of strife
Plantin’ the seeds…
The seeds of my own destruction
